About FishNY: A Community Built for Passionate Anglers

Welcome to FishNY.com – Your Best Source for all things fishing in New York and Beyond!

Hi there! I’m Brian Bluff, the owner of FishNY.com, I’ve spent my career behind a computer screen on behalf of a digital marketing company that my brother Eddie and a couple of friends started way back in 2003. I’m also a proud US Navy Veteran.

My love for fishing took root on the shores of Sand Lake at Kring’s Cottages in Plevna, Ontario, where I spent childhood summers trying to outsmart (and often being outsmarted by) fish.

Fishing wasn’t just a pastime in my family—it was a way of life. With Dad as our devoted leader and my four brothers and me as eager disciples, every trip to the water felt like a sacred tradition.

These days, I call Sandy Pond, NY, home, where I’m lucky to live within reach of some of the finest freshwater fishing spots in the world.

If I’m being honest, I spend more time talking and writing about fishing than actually doing it. It’s my favorite pastime, but life keeps me busy with long days still staring at that computer screen.

I’m hopeful that one day I’ll trade my keyboard for a fishing rod and catch more fish than my skills probably deserve.

Until then, I’m all in on fishny.com. It’s my off-time mission to build the ultimate fishing website—a passion project that blends my love for fishing with my expertise in digital technology and marketing. Along the way, I get to live vicariously through you—our readers and contributors—by hearing your fishing tales and tried-and-true tips.

Thank you for being part of this journey!

Fishing: My Experience

I’ve been fishing my whole life. And because I’m getting long in the tooth, that means I have decades of fishing experience :

Here’s are some of the places I’ve fished:

  • New York: From bass to perch, I’ve fished across Western NY, Central NY, and the Adirondacks.
  • Lake Ontario Expertise: I’ve reeled in brown trout, lake trout, walleye, bass, and salmon from the Salmon River to the Thousand Islands.
  • Beyond NY: I’ve cast lines across Ontario (Canada), Lake Champlain between New York and Vermont, Myrtle Beach (SC), Florida (fresh and saltwater), the Northwest US for rainbow trout and salmon, and Bimini Bahamas.
